How to Care for Stamped Concrete

How to Care for Stamped Concrete in Syracuse, NY, and Central NY

The Days Following Installation:

The concrete and sealer need time to cure. Please no foot traffic for a minimum of 24 hours, and please no furniture for a minimum of 72 hours. No vehicle traffic for five days minimum. The colors you choose may look darker or blotchy in some areas. Discoloration is very normal, and it will begin to blend in time. It takes about 30 days for your concrete to cure fully. Sometimes, it can take longer, depending on moisture and the elements your concrete is in.

Best Practices:

Do not drag furniture on it. Metal furniture is not advisable as rust can damage the surface. All furniture should have plastic caps on the bottom to protect the concrete. We recommend no rubber bottom door mats or flowerpots on the concrete as they can trap water on the surface, causing the sealer to become discolored.

Sealer:

A decorative sealer must be reapplied within 1-1.5 years because the initial application is highly absorbent. Sequential applications should only be done approximately every three years (depending on the amount of sun and traffic). An Anti-skid agent is added to our sealer; if you are doing your re-seals, we recommend adding this to keep slickness to a minimum.

Winter:

NEVER use any Ice melt products on the concrete, but if you must use Calcium Chloride. The preferred anti-slip method is to apply sand. Please do not use metal shovels or metal-tipped shovels; plastic shovels only. When snow blowing/plowing, be sure not to drag equipment on the surface of the concrete.

Cleaning:

We recommend gently pressure washing with a wide fan tip. If you do not have a power washer, then Simple Green Cleaner works well.
